Manafwa, Uganda
Our Country Directors, Bosco and Nancy Mukholi are the Directors of our local school, LWANDA. This school is intentionally established in the heart of rural Manafwa which allows some 500+ children of the surrounding rural region to have an on-going education and a chance at a bright future, whilst the area continues to endure crop shortages and economic instability.
As you can imagine, with famine, wars, economic upheaval, education is not often a luxury that is afforded to the children of Eastern Uganda. Education is freedom in this part of the world and we built a school to ensure just that!
Uganda Vision
Given's efforts are 3-fold in Uganda...
ONE: Continue construction of our school, Lawanda. We have acquired over 8 acres of land with crops and sustainable measures for the village to both grow and distribute food to the region. We have 5 buildings/classrooms complete, 3 full-time teachers, 8 part-time teachers/volunteers and over 500 children. So more needs to be done!
TWO: We have a new well! This was something so fundamental to the health and longevity of this area and all our kids and families. That said, growth demands resources and thus, we will need an additional wells to support the growing school numbers and increasing village demands.
THREE: Over 6 years ago we launched our Class Sponsorship Program for each of our bases with Uganda having the largest opportunity with over 500 children in several classrooms needing supplies and basic neccesities. $30/month goes towards school uniforms, class fees (yes, we are accredited in Uganda), books, meals and access to medical supplies to children in need (malaria meds, etc).
